About this deal

The medicinal and other harsh notes are present on the palate. Although it is bearable, sometimes, the mouthfeel has a prominent bitter and light vegetal hint. A shaker filled with ice and El Jimador Reposado is the best way to enjoy a pure taste of El Jimador. Drink slowly from a shot glass after straining. Aromatic notes of citrus and cinnamon, as well as a bold, ripe agave character. It may be that some swear by serving a citrus garnish, but do as you please. Bought 2nd June 2011 from Selfridge's, Birmingham, England, for a trip to Stonehenge; I wanted something to introduce some friends to 100% agave tequila, and it looks like I really hit paydirt. era El Jimador is a Lowlands spirit, unaged and named in honor of the jimador, a Mexican agave harvester. Theres modest pepper on the nose, with red chiles, lemon, coconut, and roasted meats. The body is a little all over the place, with notes of chile oil, grilled pineapple, more lemon, and a sultry agave/herbal character on the finish. Theres quite a bit of that funky meat character on the finish, but its not overwhelming or pungent.

This top-of-the-line Añejo tequila from El Jimador never fails to impress. Whilt not as rich as the more expensive Don Julio Añejo, this year-aged tequila remains a bargain. The liquid is nice and crystal clear, like the water from a fresh mountain spring. As for the aroma coming off the glass, it’s spot on for a typical tequila — herbal notes close to fresh cut grass with a bit of lemon citrus to brighten the whole thing up.It was Aurelio who would give the distillery its lasting name of Herradura, named after a horseshoe that he found on the property sometime around 1900. Then, the Cristero War broke out in Mexico in 1926, a conflict where secular factions within Mexico sought to eliminate the power of the Catholic church and impose an atheist state. During this, Aurelio provided financial and material support to the Catholics and, in response, the distillery was raided and he was forced with his family into exile, leaving his cousin Don David in charge of the facility. It was David who resisted following the trend in the 1920’s of producing inferior “mixto” tequila, insisting that Herradura always remain 100% blue agave based.

Like other El Jimador tequilas, Blanco uses only pure Weber blue agave. These notes are present throughout the spirit and are joined on the nose with fresh citrus, vegetal, and light wood aromas. On The PalateI've no idea how this compares to the mixto version (which I have no desire to try unless by some miracle it is actually better than this), but I can say that it walks all over the other mixtos I've tried. Blanco is El Jimador’s take on silver tequila or tequila that hasn’t spent any time ageing in oak barrels. Because of that, this vibrant tequila is fresh and crystal clear.

Tequila production on what would become the Herradura distillery started in the early 19th century, started by a man named Feliciano Romo. In 1870, Félix López took over the property and registered it as a legal distillery named Hacienda San José del Refugio. The distillery remained in the family even after Félix’s death in 1878, operated first by his wife and later by her brother, Aurelio López. El Jimador Reposado is naturally fermented and double distilled. It is aged for two months in American oak barrels before bottling. What El Jimador Reposado Tequila Tastes Like Nose This list includes only 100%-agave tequilas. I don’t recommend any mixtos here. The difference between the two is this: a fully agave tequila is made by distilling the fermented juices of agave. That’s it. Nothing else is added to the fermenter, just agave juices and yeast. Short, peppery, some heat - but very little compared to e.g. DJ anejo - a mild numbess and a very distant, well-distributed but not overpowering alcohol burn. There's some wood there, and - interestingly - the agave and fruitiness from the initial return for a second finish a few seconds later! It has a warm, relatively smooth long finish with alcohol astringency. It has lingering oak, vanilla, peppery spice, and a bit of cinnamon flavor at the tail end. Our Thoughts First SipGiven the poor showing with the ice, I thought for sure that there would be nothing redeeming in the margarita. But I was wrong, there actually is something interesting here. El Jimador tequila flagship name honors the master harvesters of the blue agave plant for tequila and mezcal production. [ 1]
