The only reason why I read this was because I saw that a principle down south was fired for reading it. That 'aha' moment never came, and while it was cute that the child pondered if cracked butts were contagious, the fact that it lacked that teachable moment brought the whole book down for me. I read it with my 2 year old son and now he’s running around the house going butt butt butt; the sight is nearly as funny as this book is. The preschool set will think this book is hilarious, but it might be a different story with their parents. As they follow the story and take in all the details in the illustrations, they’ll giggle with glee.

I Need a New Bum (board book) (The New Bum Series)

I Need a New Bum’ (2018) – by Dawn McMillan, with illustrations by Ross Kinnaird – is a fun and silly story aimed squarely at its target audience demographic of largely bum/pooh fixated 2-6 year olds. I was honestly quite impressed by her creativity, and I don't think she's bottomed-out yet, so I'd love to read something by her which is written with a more mature (but equally playful) aspect, to which she will no doubt respond tush-hey! a little boy thinks he broke his butt so he starts thinking of what kind of replacement butt he should have. The Illustrations by Ross Kinnaird really make the book special, since they're so incredibly colorful.

Please note that some countries may charge the recipient duties on the 'import' of parcels from time-to-time. The incident has spurred criticism from free speech advocates, who claim the termination could have a chilling effect at a time of conservative-fueled pushes for book bans in schools across the US. The illustrations were great and really got her imagination going, she spent ages after reading it talking about all the different styles of new butts she could think up and how funny they would be. The protagonist of this story is a young lad who needs a new bum to replace the (obviously broken) one that he currently owns.

This book is just down right silly, there's not really a point to it which makes it more hilarious to them. She obviously knows on which side her bread is butt-ered, and a woman can be a gluteus for punishment just like a man. But in positioning the act of reading a book as a violation of ethics, the district is implying that any educator could be terminated under similar circumstances, whenever an anonymous source feels a book read to students is ‘inappropriate’ for any reason. Now, admittedly, I am usually not the greatest fan of books that have anything to do with bums, backsides, pooh, farts or anything related to our sitting muscles, but after reading the blurb of today’s offering (and finding out that the author and illustrator are from New Zealand – hooray! Admittedly, the text may not earn the author a spot in Poet's Corner, but then again, this is not supposed to be high poetry.

Certainly, the book in question is meant to be humorous for a young audience, and fellow educators might reasonably question if it was the optimal choice for this particular occasion,” the organization said. Not sure if I'd purchase this for my library, which has a large population of culturally conservative families, but it's quite funny and I'd recommend it to friends with children who have a good sense of humor. They will giggle, they will laugh and they will want this book to be read over and over again because it is just plain silly and funny. McMillan’s popular story was first published in New Zealand under the more polite title “I Need a New Bum.

I took more time on this book than one normally would, because I was staring at all of the colorful illustrations that I'm sure children would adore. Kids get to see him try different things on for size, including a rocket butt, an armor-plated knight’s butt, and a chrome bumper butt! While middle-aged me jokingly eye-rolls to his mother about his current taste in books, I am simply happy that he wants to read.
